Listen….. Lighting can make or break your space.

Think back to how many rooms you’ve been in and immediately look up. Not sure about you, but for me it’s too many to count.

That’s because in most instances, the lighting is the focal point.

This is why it’s so important to get lighting right…even down to the light bulbs.

If the fixture is too big for the space it will overpower it and feel overwhelming. If it’s too small, it will do the opposite and underwhelm the space. Too bright and it will overstimulate. Too dull and it will under stimulate and make you want to go to sleep AS SOON as you walk in.

Lots of people take lighting for granted… making sure the furniture is on point, the decor elements are on point, the layout is on point… but forgetting the cherry on top…………… tragic.

Don’t worry, I’m here for you. I don’t want my readers to ever have to deal with this sad occurrence.

That’s why I decided to write this post.

This is the top things to keep in mind when choosing your light fixtures!

  • Consider color. What is your color scheme? Dark and moody? Stick with black and bronze. Light and bright? Silver and gold.
  • Consider style. Are you going for glam, modern, contemporary, farmhouse, or in my case industrial? All things to factor in when choosing a fixture.

  • Consider size. My favorite thing to do is go to Wayfair and filter by size. That way I don’t fall in love with a fixture who’s size won’t work for my space. It’s as easy as “small, medium, large, or extra large”… You have to gage what size will work for you based on the size of your space.
  • Consider shape. Wider fixtures work in wider spaces, narrow fixture is for narrow spaces. Once again filter but by diameter this time.
