I’m writing to share some life changing information with you all. It’s in regards to how we’ve been surviving in this house with no coat closet 😲. *gasp* You read that correctly! We have no coat closet in our new build home.

The reason we’re missing a closet is because where the other homes in our neighborhood have one, we have a door to our basement instead. So in case you find yourself in a similar situation I wanted to be the first to inform you it’s totally possible to live without one so don’t panic!

Without further ado, let’s jump into it!

• Wow! Factor •

Coming into our front door, we have a rather long, kind’ve awkwardly narrow hallway which leads to the kitchen, eat-in kitchen, and living room combo. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to add some form a focal point/ wow factor for guests as they walk in the house.

I placed a bench where people can sit and take their shoes off, a basket where they can place hats, bags, or accessories, and a coat rack for coats jackets and scarves.

My favorite thing about this sitting area is how simple it is. I didn’t want to overcrowd the entrance so I opted for a simple sign to hang over the coat hook, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” I got this custom made from the etsy shop, rootedngroundedhome.

I added a few pillows to the bench from home goods, a wreath to bring in some greenery, and in the basket I added 2 blankets that I brought from our Michigan house.

• Storage Solution for Coats •

Of course, it would still be benefical to have a coat closet for the millions of coats and jackets we’ve collected as a family but we had to make do with what we were given. Our storage solution for now is upstairs in the playroom closet, since it really wasn’t being utilized anyway. We just keep the shoes and jackets downstairs that we wear on a regular and put the others upstairs tucked away until we need them.

This coat closet solution has really worked well for us and I hope this post gave you ideas, inspiration, and motivation to add a new, fun, organized space in your home!

Since then I have updated our entryway space just a little!
